Fiber
Fleeces – Once the fleece is shorn, it is
closely skirted to remove undesirable sections of wool including tags,
vegetation and second cuts. The fleeces
vary in color from creamy white to silver, gray, and brown. Raw fleeces are sold by the pound.
Roving – We take the raw fleeces and wash
them to remove most of the lanolin, then transport them to a commercial wool
processing facility where they are carded into roving. No carding oil is used in the carding
process. As a result the roving is free
from oil thus spinning much easier, lighter and much more consistently. Roving is sold by the ounce or pound.
Batting –The Cotswold large open curl fiber
characteristic makes our batting wonderful fill for quilts of all sizes and
shapes.
